After a three-week absence, we’re back with another hour of quality tuneage from noisemakers old and new. For once, let’s start the brief recap with the old-timers. Pere Ubu (pictured), Bill Direen & The Bilders, The Dicks, Vacuum, The Creation, The Screamers and the Nig-Heist, anyone? There’s a set of “soft sounds for gentle people” (sorta) in the middle, bookended by new stuff from The Proper Ornaments and Cold Beat. There is other new material from The Nots, Apache Dropout, The Coolies and Dark Matter. In short, there is much to like.

39 CLOCKS were a Hanover, Germany duo recording in the early 1980s who slot extremely well into the post-Velvet Underground continuum. Hackamore Brick, Modern Lovers, Pere Ubu, Suicide – there are elements of all in 39 Clocks’ sound, especially on their terrific “Pain It Dark” LP from 1981.

They don’t show up in conventional narratives of post-VU leaves and branches, and hey, it may be because of their somewhat gothic, metronomic, dare I say “teutonic” sound. See what you think by listening to the track that kicks off the LP, “Shake The Hippie”. (there are even better tracks – listen to my podcast #18 for the amazing “Psycho Beat”).

PERE UBU certainly haven’t shied away from putting their archival material online, and there are some fantastic sets available for you to purchase here. I’ve had this tape for many years of their May 5th, 1976 show at The Mistake in Cleveland, Ohio – and it looks to me like it’s not something available online anywhere else.

If you believe this page, it may have only been their 7th show ever. Another recording from a month earlier at the exact same venue came out as the CD “The Shape of Things” – and it’s tremendous. As is this. It’s early, raw, primal Ubu inventing a blend of punk rock and modern art never before or since seen. Enjoy.

The recording of 2013’s first DYNAMITE HEMORRHAGE RADIO podcast is now in the books, and it’s all ready to share with the people. This is the fourth edition of the podcast, running at about 1 hour, 15 minutes, and it will take you on a musical walkabout so mind-blowing you’ll never, ever come back. It features underground punk, pop, psych, instrumental and garage-scorch dating from about 1964 to stuff that came out a couple of weeks ago. It’s strung together just like a real radio show and everything, complete with an annoying “deejay”. Only you and I have to know that it’s totally phony, and that the guy who did it made the goddamn thing on his laptop.
