Dynamite Hemorrhage Radio #78

Nothing more motivating on a Wednesday evening for me than a night spent dragging, dropping & pontificating in the course of throwing together a 78th episode of DYNAMITE HEMORRHAGE RADIO, our irregular but usually fortnightly phony podcast of sub-underground rocknroll music from the past five decades.

There IS some new stuff this time – from BEATNIKS and GOOD THROB – plus reissues from THE WEAD, GARBAGE AND THE FLOWERS, THE SCIENTISTS and others – but mostly a bunch of library material (like NAKED SPOTS DANCE, pictured), and a few relatively new things like the lovely WEYES BLOOD track that closes out the show. Most of it’s pretty aggro and gnarly. I think you’re going to like it.

Stream or download Dynamite Hemorrhage Radio #78 on Soundcloud.

Stream the show on Mixcloud instead (lots of older episodes too).

It’s all about the young musicmakers of today this time on DYNAMITE HEMORRHAGE RADIO – this 65-minute podcast features a bunch of ‘em, including brand new stuff from Household, Neonates, Wildhoney, The Ar-Kaics, Toxie, Terry Malts, Ruby Pins and even the swan song from Sic Alps. Holy mackerel. I also took a page directly from the book of New Zealand’s (and The Dead C’s) Bruce Russell, and played a set of kiwi postpunk, punk and noise from the early 1980s on “small labels”, just as Mr. Russell did on this excellent podcast. I was taking notes, as you’ll see. The show is rounded out by other sub-underground sound from Jackknife, Blast Off Country Style, The Spits, Dara Puspita, Bona Dish, Flesh Eaters and more.

THE GORDONS “farewell” gig flyer; Wellington New Zealand. From what I can gather, this would have been 1981 or 1982, considering that Naked Spots Dance were also on the bill, who broke up in ‘83.

The Gordons reformed again in 1983, and again in 1984 with their original line-up. Later they morphed into Bailter Space.

Some mp3s I’d Like To Trade You Other mp3s For

Usually it’s pretty easy for me to lay my hands on songs that I hear, even vinyl-only stuff, that I want to roast up on my own CDs and play on my mp3-only podcast. But certain songs are bedeviling, and I can’t find them anywhere.

Right now there are three that I shamelessly would love to “own”. If you happen to have mp3s of these, and would like to swap them for things that you’re looking for that I might have, please drop me a line here.

JACKKNIFE – “Come On”
THE PLAYTHINGS – “Coloured” (version from original NZ 45)
NAKED SPOTS DANCE – “Crescendo/Circle Moon”
