One of the internet’s most valuable resources, GUNILLA MIXTAPES, just resurfaced on Tumblr. This is important. Camille’s digital “mixtapes” – that’s really all her site is – is a goldmine of 45- or LP-only obscurities from the serrated edges of postpunk and artpunk. Nearly exclusively female-fronted, I might add.
Her site turned me onto untold numbers of wild banshees and demented art students, and her digitization skills are a global treasure. Dig in now before she decides to take it away from us.
MAKING WAVES #3 just arrived in the mail yesterday. The mere existence of this fanzine, and its combination of professionalism & slipshod messiness, helped convince me that my own print fanzine still might be a viable option in 2013/2014.
Looking forward to digging in. You can grab your own copy here.
I reckon this fanzine has been out now for a year, but MAKING WAVES #1 just arrived in my mailbox over the weekend and looks to be a first-rate read. It’s focused on female-fronted punk and post punk, primarily of the 70s/80s, with Stef Petticoat, Alice Bag, Dolly Mixture and Kleenex/LiliPut among the interviewees. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Meanwhile, you can order you own printed copy, download a PDF, and/or check out a mix that Camille and Mary made for you right here.
